The Rule

Okay so everyone knows that everyone…well not everyone but maybe at least 90% of today’s society does NOT show their real life on social media. Now you do have some people that put too much of their business out to the world but you catch my drift right?

So of the rules of social media include being polite, do not be nosy but it okay to be curious, do not ask for favors, update, and so on and so forth. Yet we all know that this is absolutely not true, right?

Social media heck today’s society is the leading cause of individuals committing suicide. Trolling! Trolling is when an individual hides behind a keyboard and make mean comments, post, etc towards someone about anything from accents, disabilities, clothes, social classes, beliefs, sexuality…ANYTHING!

Now lets talk about favors! Familiar with Cash App? The application which people use to transfer money. This money along with imaginary lifestyles have made people okay with posting their Cash App names and actually ask for money on social media. Hey!Hey! Hey! Lets not forget about those good ol’ GoFund Me pages. They have gone from fundraising pages for individuals that actually need them to people who do not have insurance and need burial money, to people wanting sponsorship for bills, college, CHILDREN (as if there isn’t access to free birth control).

I believe the only area of social media that leaves us to be curious is the news, politics. Everything is all access …sad but true!

Money Making Problems

Working conditions in the Victorians Era was absolute horrible. Children were forced to work starting from the young age and employers could set there wages as low as they wanted and it was fine, but the need for jobs and money was so critical. Sound familiar? Even children were made to work for up to 16 hours a day in absolutely terrible conditions. Some children did not make it home from work because of the conditions.  Now although my son comes home from school as if he had a full day of grading papers and teaching kids… I wouldn’t mind my five year old bringing home a couple of dollars to put toward a light bill or cable bill lol, but I wouldn’t dare risk my child’s life for it.  Many ways have changed as far as children working but many adults have to work for low wages and with Trump being in office things are bound to become worse quickly.167717-131-94c99b30

Who Were The Victorians ?

Victorian Era ?

When one thinks of the The Victorian Era what comes to mind? Big, fancy dresses, tea parties, top hats and nice parties filled with wealthy individuals from England? Or do you think of Mary Poppins? Or Jack The Ripper? victoriandress111

Surprisingly, the Victorians started several of the traditions that we still hold today such as corsets, social classifications, homosexuality and believe it or not prostitution.

One thing that many may not know is that in the Victorian Era women that were from a high social class were not expected to pursue careers such as nursing. Why? Well then The Victorians questioned why someone would want to place themselves around such severe environments and want to help sick individuals with unknown diseases and unknown cure. Basically why would someone risk their lives for others?

poor-victorian-houses-familyIt was then that The Victorians started to understand the importance of sanitation, and hygiene, the need  for hospitals and nurses. There was a start for women of all backgrounds to pursue nursing and not just poor women or prostitutes.

Homosexuals were shunned out from the society and illegal. Sound any different from today’s society? Nowadays homosexuality is very acceptable but not many are able to accept it because of traditions and upbringings.

Prostitution was very big in the Victorian Era. WHAT !?  Surprised again? It was very common yet look down upon, many women in poor social classes had no choice but to turn to whorehouses to make money. Some women went as far as becoming wealthy from prostituting by collecting money, jewels, and property over a period of time.

Do I have your attention now? Now that I have given you a little light on an Era that is constantly overlooked or prejudged hopefully I have grabbed your attention and you will want to continue to read my blogs for more intriguing post. Welcome to The Victorian Era ! Enjoy the ride!pau gasol has a surprised look

Florence Nightingale

whoiswho2
Named after the city where she was born on May 12,1820. Florence unlike most Victorians grew up wealthy and knew everyone there was to know of importance. Her father inherited three estate, one where she was raised and provided with a classical education, including learning several different languages.Because she had been given the education she was expected to go into the world and pursue a certain status in life, however Florence was not happy with that idea. She in fact was disappointed at the fact that women were tied to the stereotype of being stuck in the house and not going outside of their bow. For many of years she suffered from depression wanting to commit suicide and considered herself a monster because she wanted things that other girls did not want. She believed that she heard God’s voice for a service. 220px-florence_nightingale_(h_hering_npg_x82368)

Not only was she interested in men but She was very attracted to her cousin, Mary Ann. Now back then in the Victorian period there was a limit to what you were allowed to do and homosexuality was against the law.Richard Monckton Milnes, who was questionably bisexual, proposed to Florence three times, and after the third time thImage result for richard monckton milnesat she realized that she could not marry him. She wrote about her life throughout her life and after her 7 year courtship she questioned wanting to be alive in a letter asking if she had made the right decision or not.

Florence announced that she was wanting to pursue nursing. “How dare she make us so unhappy? How could you want to be around all of those sick people? Those who are not in our social class?” Was the reaction from her family. Now remember times have dramatically changed in some areas but with woman of her background her family did not seem to understand why she would leave a wonderful life to surround herself around sick people who were in a different social class than them.

Sidney Herbert asked Florence to put together a group of nurses for the military hospital. With little to no training Florence knew that that was her moment to seize. She played the role of a spy in the hospital by writing to Herbert every night. Many staff members did not care for Florence or the nurses because they believed that a female nurse would more than likely end up in bed with a soldier.

Publicity of her grew quickly and children started being brought up to do things for the soldiers. Between November 1854 to March 1855 4,777 soldiers died her first winter at the hospital all from illness than from battle wounds. A sanitary commission was sent to clean out shortly after.

It was difficult for Florence after coming back from the Crimean unannounced. Her parents were excited about her popularity but she was unbothered and unhappy about the war. She was upset about the number of soldiers that died because of negligence. She prepared a report to expose the hospitals sanitation. Three months after presenting her report to the commission Florence Nightgale had a nervous breakdown and for the next eleven years she did not leave her home and if one was to visit they had to send a note and she would send a note back and like some of us now, if she did not want to see someone she would state that she was ill.
