I Spy!

sherlock

I chose this image of Sherlock Holmes because to me it shows several different things. It shows a newspaper, it shows a woman, it shows a suspicious man who could possibly be a criminal. This image speaks to me! You see for someone who has no clue of Sherlock Holmes this image speaks for itself.

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most famous detectives along with good ol’ Inspector Gadget! Heck think of him as the Inspector Gadget of the Victorian Era. He solved the unsolvable ! HE WAS THEIR SUPERHERO ..without the powers! It was said that he was ADHD but he had an incredible power of observation.  His ace, Dr. John Watson was a veteran who fought in Afghanistan and deals with PTSD.  Sheldon and Leonard from the Big Bang Theory tv show are the perfect examples.

Pop Culture!

Victorians were fascinated with music halls, wax works and freak shows. You know those strange yet interesting individuals we pay money to see at the fair but are not actually the real deal? Or if you are a American Horror Story fan then you may recall the season where the theme was freak show.

fs

History literally repeats itself because what got our attention then catches our attention now only differences is we have social media to spread the news vs word of mouth or newspapers back then. Now I am not sure if I would have much heck or maybe any interest a freak show. As much interest that I may have I have a soft spot and I would hate to see people be mean to certain people in the freak show.

I do not think little people should be apart of freak shows because they are very much like like us just size. I have two at home so if I could sign them up I would lol but anyway!

Rik-To- The-Tak

Rikki Tikki Tavi is a  story from The Jungle Book. This tale is about the adventures of a mongoose by the name of, Rikki Tikki Tavi. Rikki was adopted  by a British family he not only was their  pet but for protection against the venomous cobras that  surrounded their house and garden. Such exotic snakes in good ol’ Britain? Yeah right!? rkYou see the British family was residing in India. This was not uncommon actually! The British Empire was everywhere in this Era and the story conveys the message of British culture venturing throughout those territories. The family represents… BLOOP! British culture! Rikki symbolizes the natives who accept British culture.Nag and Nagina symbolize those who did not like the new comers.

Catch This Tea !

madteaOkay so remember Alice In
Wonderland? Remember The Mad Tea Party? Now were young back then when we first saw it so we did not think to put much or any thought into it. Soooo…there is the tea( story that’s what us young folks call it lol) ! The Mad Tea Party was actually about Politics. The only thing that surprised was that some of the character was high! No not floating ! But high on Opium, which was very common in the Victorian Era.

mad hatter

The story was intriguing! I think how Carroll used certain characters and actions to symbolize controversial matters. Did you know that the mad hatter was in fact mad? Not upset but mad as is crazy! You see he made made hats true enough but the material included mercury. Once you have worn something and it sinks into your sinks into your skin ( our first line of defense) then attacked and ate at his brain. How mad is it!?

Hide Your Kids !!

My last blog was about Lewis Carroll, who is known for Alice In Wonderland. He is also known for the Walrus and the carpenter. The story about the walrus and carpenter was very controversial at the time. The walrus represents a man that is in charge. The facial hair, the top hat, and the coat symbols a man of high social class. A factory owner maybe. maxresdefault

This poem is about child labor. The walrus approaches the oysters selling them dreams in hopes of taking their baby oysters for work…money. One older oyster did not buy the dream that he was selling to the others this in fact was a miracle. Despite the fact that Walrus eat OYSTERS! images

Long story short the oysters went back with the men and lets just say they did the job lol They were very tasteful lol

Strange Lew

Lewis Carroll is a very artistic, strange yet creative writer. He is most famous for Alice In Wonderland. The images of him that I found made me think that this man was lost, maybe lonely. The images look a bit depressing. But then again how many individuals do you know that are distant, socially awkward, but are very drawn into art, reading, abstract things? Made you think about that one strange kid in school right? lewiscarroll

To many Lewis Carroll may have made them uncomfortable but I am a very straight forward, observant person. I do not judge one without knowing their story because we all have one and we all deal with our pain, sorrow, and happiness in different ways. In fact I find Lewis Carroll a bit interesting. Now the allegations of him and Alice change my beliefs but from a artistic and professional stand point I find him very interest. Suspenseful maybe…He reminds me of Michael Jackson.

Good Ol’ Fruit

Goblin Market has to be one of my favorite stories. It is very detailed and as you read you can’t help but picture the details. Two sisters, one “easy” the other head strong. The easy sister let the men give her fruit and she took that fruit and it was as if she had never tasted anything like it! She craved the fruit! She wanted more and more! she needed more!

goblin market

The head strong sister did not let the men get the her. She went to collect fruit that her sister craved but she also left with her pride and confidence. She leaving proud that the men could not get to her! You see these men were like animal. Prowling, barking, crawling around women telling them sweet nothings…until they got what they wanted. But they could not get what they’re way with the head strong sister.

In this century, fruit symbolizes one’s pride wrapped in the imagine of something that they long for, something that they lack or desire.

Domestic Servant: Victorian Era

in the Victorian Era the life of a domestic servant was basically working for family than most of the time had little money to spare. Crazy right!? Well wait until you hear the rest. It was common for most servant to be malnourished because of the lack of food and even  became sick. They were told to make themselves “invisible”. Now when I read the “invisible” part that brought Cinderella to my ,mind. How she did as she was told regardless of how she felt and her living conditions, and clothes were a bit rag dollish.

I ask myself is this something that I would have done? I would say no. However I have two mouths to feed so my answer is yes. I absolutely would have dealt with difficult conditioning to make a living for my children.

How Much Love Is Enough?

index  What is considered to be too much love? How much love is actually enough? What is considered to be weird or creepy or overrated? Well after reading Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning it is clear that a couple can be together and have two completely different views on love. There is a thin line between being in love and being a fatal attraction…that’s what I collected from my readings.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem conveyed a deep, never ending love. A love that tops one’s love for themselves. Not the love a mother has for their child. She loved Robert so much she loved him more than she loved herself.

Now I always say communication is key is relationships! If that was factor I am not sure how things may have played out with these two and I say this because  the love that Robert Browning conveyed in his writing basically stated “you either love me and let me love you forever voluntarily or let me love you involuntarily”. By this I mean ” If I can not have you then nobody can”.

Ol’ Lady Of Shalott

This photo reminds me of how some women are willing to do anything for love. Some men also, but women are more likely. Sometimes we catch ourselves doing stupid things for ones that piss on us and call it rain. Meaning do us wrong  but try to justify their actions to why or what they did.

Does that make it okay? Does that make it right? Is love worth “risking it all” for ? Some might say absolutely for their loved one. True love should meet you halfway.
